‘Forget It?’ is my response to a brief set by the Pernicious Anaemia Society in which they wanted material to help raise awareness of pernicious anaemia, the ‘Worlds Forgotten Autoimmune Disease.’ I chose the route of creating an awareness and educational campaign entitled ‘Forget It?’ with the aim to encourage people not to ‘forget’ or ‘dismiss’ their symptoms. As this was something discussed thoroughly in our meetings, that PA is often left undiagnosed due to people ignoring the symptoms, when it has fatal consequences.
Within our British culture especially, we don’t like to bother others with our health issues, in fear of annoyance or over-exaggeration. The campaign stresses that it’s okay, you should talk to your GP, and you should be questioning your symptoms as dismissing your symptoms could be dangerous especially in the case of PA. I wanted to create a piece of editorial design, using simplified illustrations to make the complicated disease a much easier topic to approach and understand. There is a real emphasis throughout on the question mark as a graphical element to further emphasise the importance of questioning your symptoms, and also helps to brand the project further. I have also created a working snapchat filter in which the user can find out more about the disease and the symptoms by swiping up. |
