We Play Too emerged from a corporate identity brief set by Bristol design agency, Mr B & Friends, as part of my Foundation Degree. We Play Too is an initiative built to support women in the fight for gender equality within music and the industry.
It is a movement passionate about creating awareness of the gender imbalance in the music industry. With the gender divide across all musical regions roughly 70% male to 30% female, it is an issue I felt needed addressing, and now. We Play Too wants women, of all ages, races and abilities to have access to playing music, and to have unintimidating spaces to rehearse and perform. I created an identity, a manifesto, displaying it in a short booklet, festival line ups and ephemera, merchandise and posters. Although this was a fictional brand, I did end up selling some of the merchandise at an exhibition at Centrespace in Bristol. Throughout this project I spoke to countless women from Bristol and the surrounding areas who felt their experiences with music had been affected by their gender and this gave me great opportunity to create a really passionate and personal project. |
